WWII Compass

World War II Compass worn by Edward Higgins, UDT 11

UDT 11 first saw action in World War II on the shores of Okinawa clearing reefs and obstacles ahead of the amphibious assault on the island. With battleships, cruisers, and destroyers firing directly over them at the beach defenses, the Team 11 frogmen used explosives to clear the way to the shore.

After Okinawa, the team went on to successfully clear beaches in Borneo, receiving a Presidential Unit Citation for their work at Balikpapan.
