Army Commendation Medal

The United States War Department established the Army Commendation Medal in 1945.

it is awarded any member of the United States Armed Forces while serving with the Army who distinguishes himself or herself by heroism, meritorious achievement, or meritorious service. The medal may be awarded to a member of a foreign nation who distinguishes himself or herself by an act of heroism, extraordinary achievement, or meritorious service, which has been of benefit to a friendly nation and the United States.
