Operation Overlord, and D-Day in particular, was a major turning point in the war in Europe, as Allied troops began to systematically defeat the Wehrmacht in France. The Allies would go on to fight a brutal campaign in order to push German forces back into Germany itself, but the American soldiers’ determination and fighting spirit on D-Day proved that they were up to the task.
