American infantryman destined to come ashore at Omaha and Utah beaches loaded onto troop transports for the journey across the English Channel in one of 931 ships that comprised the Western Naval Task Force.  As dusk set on June 5, these soldiers readied themselves for the coming assault as they made their way toward France.
