The Jewish Welfare Board included representatives of several Jewish organizations in the United States. Organized in response to World War I (1914-1918), the board enlisted rabbis to serve as chaplains, created an abridged prayer book, and reconciled the various sects of Judaism for service in the military. The board also aided in providing kosher food to meet Jewish dietary needs in canteens and barracks.
