In the Library - Rare Book Discussion: Regulations for the Order and Discipline of the Troops of the United States.

The Pritzker Military Museum & Library Reference Coordinator, Paul Grasmehr presents one our oldest collection items.  This session will give you a close look at our first edition copy of Regulations for the order and discipline of the troops of the United States, Part I, written by Baron von Steuben, and illustrated by Pierre Charles L’Enfant, engineer, architect, and future nation’s new capital. This manual formalized U.S. Army training and was in use from 1779 to the War of 1812. Paul will highlight aspects of the training manual that are still in use by the U.S. military today.

Paul Grasmehr joined the Pritzker Military Museum & Library in October 2010. His responsibilities include processing and tracking Interlibrary loans, and providing research assistance to Museum & Library staff, members and visitors. He also supervises interns and volunteers assigned to the department. Paul has a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from the University of West Alabama with a Secondary Education Social Science Comprehensive certification in history, government, economics, psychology, sociology, and geography. Prior to teaching, Paul earned his commission through Marion Military Institute’s Army ROTC program. He served in platoon leader, company command, and battalion staff officer assignments in corps combat engineer battalions and corps combat heavy engineer battalions.
