The Story of the 132d Infantry, A.E.F. 

Davis, Abel 1919

Colonel Abel Davis (later a Brigadier General), a Chicago business leader, commanded the 132nd Infantry Regiment of the 33rd Division during World War I. The unit participated in the Battle of Hamel and the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. Numerous individuals in the unit received awards for valor. Davis received both the Distinguished Service Cross and the Distinguished Service Medal.

After the war, he was active in the founding of the American Legion with fellow Chicagoan Lieutenant General Milton J. Foreman.
