Susan Gilbreath Lane Family Scrapbook Ca. 1861 In 1861, Susan Corse lived in Baltimore, Maryland where she is believed to have met her future husband, Erasmus Corwin Gilbreath.

The 20th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment’s first duty consisted of guarding 65 bridges on the Northern Central Railroad running from Baltimore to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. During this duty, the officers and men made frequent trips to Baltimore. For many of the young men from Indiana, these visits were their first time in a large city.
