Commemorate Their Service (TM)
The PMML was delighted to host the AE/AOE Sailor Association for their annual military reunion. This reunion brought together almost 80 sailors and family members from across the United States. Their afternoon itinerary included exploring the museum with dedicated PMML staff and access to collections and resources not normally available to the public.
The museum team curated a special selection of artifacts specifically for the occasion, showcasing items from our collection that are not normally featured in exhibits. The library staff prepared a tailored presentation of books from PMML’s extensive collection, focusing on literature that highlighted the roles and contributions of the sailors. Attendees were encouraged to browse, ask questions, and engage with the materials.

One of the most memorable moments of the day was the celebration of Bob Brenner’s 100th birthday. Bob, a retired Navy Motor Machinist Mate 3rd Class and proud WWII veteran, was surprised by tour organizers with a special recognition from PMML’s program, Commemorate Their Service(TM). This honor includes a permanent entry on the museum’s Wall of Honor and a personalized dedication in a book within the circulating collection. The books are carefully selected to showcase the service or training of the honored veterans. Bob Brenner will have his bookplate displayed in the book title, Great Lakes Naval Training Station, as a tribute to his training and to ensure that Bob’s legacy will be preserved and shared with future visitors.
