WE ARE RESILIENCE: Masks of Hope Exhibit Opening and Reception
Join the Pritzker Military Museum & Library, in partnership with Kids Rank, on Wednesday April 6th from 5-7pm for a glimpse into the lives of military-connected youth through their art. In recognition of the Month of the Military Child, when our Nation pays tribute to the resilience and tenacity of our military children and underscores the important role military children play in the armed forces community, this exhibit opening and reception will include 100 masks from the original exhibit along with additional pieces created as part of a PMML Family Program.
In this one-night only exhibit opening and reception, attendees will have the opportunity to celebrate military-connected youth and their powerful, raw and honest reflections into life as a military child. Meet some of the children artists, explore the masks and the messages of hope and resilience that they contain, and hear the reading of the Proclamation of the Month of the Military Child. Light refreshments will be served.
Launched in early 2020, Kids Rank, in partnership with the National Veterans Art Museum, invited schools and community organizations in the Chicagoland area to participate in the WE ARE RESILIENCE: Masks of Hope Project. At the time, Kids Rank began more intentionally exploring the social and emotional health of military children and knew, based on research, that art can be a vehicle that allows people to express their emotions in a safe space. The project began as a 4-week workshop for Kids Rank’s Pride members to learn more about color and design, express themselves by creating a mask, and write reflections about their artwork.
