Family

Military families endure many hardships. Deployments place a great distance between families and leave one parent solely responsible for finances, parenting, household chores, and maintenance. Children often grow up confused and disoriented from missing a parent who is away for several months at a time. In addition, military families endure many standard family issues that are intensified as a result of service. The loss of a loved one in combat or a training accident is an everyday risk that families face and they are often left with many unexpected responsibilities in the event tragedy occurs. Divorce also is a very common reality in our armed forces that presents its own unique challenges and obstacles. The Veterans Information Center provides several materials and resources to help ease some of these stresses.
