World War I, 1914–1918

Called “The Great War” and the “War to End All Wars”, the conflict that enveloped the world between 28 July 1914 – 11 November 1918 would eventually come to be known as World War I. Prior to the Second World War many had hoped that the Great War concluded at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month would mark the end humanity’s bloodshed. Unfortunately, as history tells us, this was not meant to be.
