American Forces Fire Artillery at Japanese Defenses

As U.S. troops pushed further inland, the remaining Japanese forces moved into the mountains of the island, where they would be reinforced by Japanese forces from elsewhere in the Philippines. Combating the Japanese over the next several months would be a grueling campaign, as Allied forces fought for control of the Island.
