Sam Gevirtz, who was honored at the Lake Barrington Shores’ Veterans Day ceremony, has had his two World War II diaries accepted by the Pritzker Military (Museum &) Library in Chicago. Gevirtz, an 89-year-old resident of Lake Barrington Shores, was a private first class gunner aboard the U.S.S. Bunker Hill during the invasion of Okinawa, Japan. Read more.
